Paul Desmond listens to playback

Los Angeles - 1954

Audrey Hepburn was Paul Desmond’s “dream girl” and when Bob was working on My Fair Lady in 1963, he asked Paul if he would like to meet her. It was a very closed set, and it took quite a bit of effort to get clearance from the director, the studio, and of course Hepburn. As Paul and Bob reached the stage door to meet her, Paul suddenly stopped. He looked at Bob and said he couldn’t do it; he wanted his “dream to stay a dream.”
