Big Jay McNeely at the Olympic Auditorium, contact sheet

Los Angeles - 1951

SOCIETY EXCLUSIVE

These photographs were taken at the Olympic Auditorium Boxing Arena, in downtown Los Angeles, 1951. The headliner was Hunter Hancock’s Midnight Matinees, featuring legendary saxophonist Big Jay McNeely, drummer Al Bartee, and singer "Smilin’ Smokey Lynn (with his arms out).

Here we get a privileged look at Bob’s process, straight from the archive. This sheet features shots taken as he worked his way around the concert, capturing different perspectives. This is Bob’s actual contact sheet with his personal crop marks and notes, restored and made available as a 20” x 24” spread.
