Judy Garland waits to go on stage

London - 1962

The shoot for this performance of I Could Go on Singing was not easy, and Judy Garland was having a difficult time. She and Bob always got along well, so to cheer her up he brought some prints from a previous shoot to her dressing room for her to see. “It looks like I have a wrinkled crotch,” was her response to one of the shots. Unfortunately, he responded with “that’s what everyone says!” thinking to lighten the mood. She exploded and threw the prints at him. When he told the producers what happened and apologized for making things worse, they all fell around laughing, dragging him to the director who thought it was hilarious, too. In the end, levity prevailed and Judy came out to give Bob a hug.
